Please Share... Glenda's Angels

Please take 5 minutes to read what I am up to as I really could do with all your love and support to get through one of the biggest physical challenges of my life…..

So….I have been on an incredible journey that has led me to a very exciting time of my life where I am in a position to give back to a community – two charities that donate an enormous amount of time to those in need of support with medical and financial support – Journey of Hope http://www.joh.org.bw/  & Maun Movemberhttp://www.movemberbotswana.com/

These two charities spend endless hours raising awareness of cancer in Botswana. From testing stations to financial support and guidance on how to cope. These are special people.

What started out as a personal pledge has turned into something much bigger and better – and I hope to have an impact on the lives of the people that these charities will help.

What am I doing???
Have you heard of the Desert 1000 off-road race in Botswana. It is one of the qualifiers for the DAKAR race – so it’s no mickey mouse race.https://www.facebook.com/Toyota-1000-Desert-Race-1441822869451349/
We ride off-road motorbikes with the cars…… hmmm that already gives me butterflies.

I am riding the Bronze class – 500km in two days on the 25th and 26th June this year.

Who is Glenda – Glenda Branch is a very dear friend – and Ross Branch’s mom (International and Botswana Off-road, Motor cross & Desert 1000 championhttps://www.facebook.com/rossi.branch/ )
We lost Glenda in 2013 after a long battle with cancer – while Dan and I were on the periphery it was so hard to see the family go through the ordeal. Journey of Hope helped Glenda through her hard times with support.
After I had Keegan, (my second son) I wasn’t coping too well (Ryan was only 17 months) and Glenda was the one person that identified that I was suffering from post natal depression – and helped me get myself back on track.

I always wanted to give back – as there was nothing I could really do to help Glenda at the hardest and darkest hour – and so, I asked the Branch family if I could please ride in Glenda’s name and so here I am – a personal pledge to the family to attempt what will be a gruelling physical challenge.

We hope to have our website up and running this next week – and have a page where all of us can add our loved ones who have battled cancer – both our angels and our survivors. With the permission of the families I would appreciate if you would share the names of all and any loved ones that you would like to add – as we will ride in their name as well. I will ride for all of them.

I have a very dear friend, Lee Potter from Maun who has offered to ride alongside me – the whole way as my team mate. So it’s the two of us – together. I have asked Lee’s sister, Nicky Dance and Kate (my sister) to come on board and help me manage and drive this “crazy challenge”. I am eternally grateful for the hours they put in – and wouldn’t manage this without them.

What we need:

Firstly – DONATIONS to the charities – we will have a direct DONATE option to the charities on our website.

Secondly – SUPPORT to our team – There is an enormous amount of training that goes into preparation of this event, and everything from tyres, fuel, tubes, service kits, riding kit, transportation, trailer, accommodation, nannies to look after our kids J and a very well stocked first aid kit!!!!!!!

PLEASE REMEMBER – I am a novice rider – and still learning how to ride properly – in the last weeks I’ve already fractured a rib and pulled the muscles in my left shin – yes – I didn’t know I could do that either. I do my best not to fall – but I’m in the process of trying to get a bike that is suited for me – as opposed to training on my husband’s enormous bike (which he’s not thrilled about…. J)

The links below are for the option to offer any form of support – be it financial or sponsorship of spares, riding kit and fuel.

All supporters and sponsors will be listed on our riding shirts and banners – unless you would prefer to remain anonymous – but I would love to show who you all are.

This is something that has me awake at night – thinking about this monstrous challenge – but most of you know me well – and know I can do this! With you behind me – even if it’s just a message on the Glenda’s Facebook page makes all the difference to me – knowing that you’re there in spirit as well.

Please get behind us.

Lots of love
